Funded Project #2 - NCRAC Extension Project

Description


The second “Base” Project was chaired by Don Garling.  The objectives include:

 


  1. Strengthen linkages between North Central Regional Aquaculture Center (NCRAC) Research and Extension Work Groups.
  2. Enhance the NCRAC extension network for aquaculture information transfer.
  3. Provide in-service training for Cooperative Extension Service, Sea Grant Advisory Service,  and other landowner assistance personnel.

Description

Viral Hemorrhagic Septicemia (VHS)

Description

The first Fish Health Funded Project.  Chaired by Jeff Malison.

Objectives:

The overall goal is to minimize the risk of spreading VHS and other fish diseases into fish farms and wild waterways throughout the North Central Region (NCR). Specific objectives are:

1. Determine the safety and efficacy of iodine disinfection on walleye and northern pike eggs infected with VHS. Read more about Viral Hemorrhagic Septicemia (VHS)

Largemouth Bass Funded Project

Description

The first largemouth bass funded project.  Chaired by Chris Kohler.

Objectives:

  1. Assess diet and environmental factors that affect growth and health of largemouth bass raised to 1.5 lb in ponds with formulated feed.
  2. Develop cost-effective finisher diets that enhance health and growth of largemouth bass.
  3. Conduct a region-wide workshop on raising largemouth bass to 1.5 lb in ponds based, at least, on the results of the research activities in Objectives 1 and 2.
