A Hybrid Striped Bass is a cross between a
white bass and a striped bass.The crossing of a female striped
bass with a male white bass (the original cross) is called the
Palmetto Bass. The crossing of a male
striped bass with a female white bass is called the
Sunshine Bass (the reciprocal cross).
Hybrid Striped Bass is described as having
seven or eight dark broken stripes running along the side of
the silvery body with several extending to the tail. The back
is dark green to black colored. Teeth at the base of the tongue
are arranged in two parallel patches. Body is deep, usually
measuring 1/3 of length of fish. Hybrid Striped
Bass generally can not reproduce. It needs warm
temperatures (68-86° F) for rapid growth. Market size is
desirable at 1.5 to 3.5 lbs. HSB are raised for food and
sport.
